Risks Of Ectopic Pregnancy Surgery
An ectopic pregnancy is a pregnancy in which the ovum has implanted itself in any other place outside of the uterine wall. This is a complicated pregnancy which may result to a risky surgery. Ectopic pregnancy surgery entails saving the woman's life and the cessation of the pregnancy. In the case of tubal ectopic pregnancy, there is no chance of the pregnancy even reaching eight weeks before a problem will occur, which may need ectopic pregnancy surgery. In some cases of abdominal ectopic pregnancy, the pregnancy may carry through, with high risks, as long as the ovum has managed to cling well in to the tissues and reached an adequate supply of blood for itself.
Most ectopic pregnancies occur in the fallopian tubes. When a pregnancy in the fallopian tubes is observed, it is best to remove the ovum before it can do any damage to the fallopian tubes. As of now, there is no possibility of the ovum developing into a fetus when it has attached itself to the fallopian tubes. Ectopic pregnancy treatment should be done the earliest possible time while the fallopian tubes have not been damaged yet. The possibility of removing the damaged tubes if they already damaged may have some risks involved concerning future pregnancies.
Two Types Of Ectopic Pregnancy Surgery
There are two types of ectopic pregnancy surgery procedures, namely, salpingostomy and salpingectomy. In salpingostomy, no portion of the fallopian tubes is removed and only a small incision is made to remove the ovum before it damages the fallopian tubes. In salpingectomy, the part of the fallopian tube which was damaged by the ovum is removed. Both kinds of ectopic pregnancy surgery procedures have little risk concerning the woman but possibilities of future pregnancies may be affected by damaged fallopian tubes.
The kind of incision made in the abdomen can also affect the risks of an ectopic pregnancy surgery procedure. The larger the incision is, the bigger the possibility of infection setting in without any use of medication. The incision in the abdomen may be larger if there is already some damage in the fallopian tubes or internal bleeding. A ruptured ectopic pregnancy will need an emergency ectopic pregnancy surgery to avoid complications.
Basically, there are little risks with regards to the ectopic pregnancy surgery itself unless there has already been damage to the fallopian tubes which may need a more in depth kind if surgery. Following pregnancies may be put at risk if there has been an ectopic pregnancy surgery for damaged fallopian tubes.
